Penn State trustees to review proposal to make for happier beat reporters

When James Franklin and his staff came to Penn State, a plan to improve the football facilities to keep up to speed with programs in the SEC and Ohio State was made clear. Now it appears Penn State could be one step closer to undergoing some facility upgrades.

Last week, Audrey Snyder of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette made note of some items on agenda for this week’s Penn State Board of Trustees meeting in Hershey, singling out a proposal for renovations to the Lasch Football Building.

Much has been made about the NCAA’s decision to allow schools to provide unlimited snacks. A new nutritional bar would certainly help meet those demands at Penn State. Also of note is a new video wall in the auditorium. I would assume this is for film work and team meetings, and recruit visits. Perhaps a video team can edit some high school football highlights in some nice video packages that will play as the recruits work their way into the football meeting room.

Updates to Beaver Stadium are also on tap, but none that would seem to benefit the fan. The press box is long overdue for a facelift, and it appears to be getting one. As Greg Pickel notes on PennLive, the Beaver Stadium press box has not seen a significant upgrade since 1978 outside of the addition of TVs and WiFi. Having spent a couple of years in the Beaver Stadium press box and having a seat in a handful of others over the years, I can tell you Beaver Stadium’s press box needs some significant work. But again, fans will not notice any of those changes outside of the random updates and commentary from the Penn State beat that likes to live tweet just about anything and everything from the press box on the west side of the stadium.
