While most of the nation had their eyes on games like Temple/Nova and the highly anticipated Duke/UNC contest, it was Pat Chambers squad who stole the spot light.

Penn State men’s basketball team defeated 4th ranked Iowa tonight 79-75.

Iowa looked like they may pull away with a early 8 point lead that Penn State erased by half way through the 1st half.

The Lions held a 38-31 lead at half thanks to hitting 7 three pointers  and spent the second half holding onto the lead despite multiple comeback attempts by the Hawkeyes.

The second half was a back and forth affair as four Penn State starters got into foul trouble.

Free throws would keep the game close as Iowa attempted 20 compared to Penn State’s 4.

That would change down the stretch, as the Lions attempted 18 free throws in final minutes, making 16.

Isaiah Washington was clutch down the stretch, making 6 of 6 free throws after replacing Josh Reaves who fouled out. Reaves finished with 2 points.

Back up center Donovan Jack had a career game. With starter Jordan Dickerson in foul trouble, Jack scored 19  points. His average is 4 per game.

Shep Garner and Brandon Taylor both added 18 to help the cause.

Iowa was led by Peter Jok who had 28, including 2 threes in the final minute to cut the lead to 3.

Taylor was then fouled with 7 seconds remaining, he made the first, missed the second. As Iowa pushed down the court, Isaiah Washington stole the ball securing the upset.

AND YOU BETTER BET THEY RUSHED THE COURT!!!

Tonight’s victory was Penn State’s first victory against a top 5 team since they beat #4 Michigan in 2013.

This is Penn State’s second straight home victory against a ranked team after beating #22 Indiana last week.
