On Monday night (7:30 p.m. ET) the Big Ten Network will honor special individuals and teams from all sports in the Big Ten for their achievements in the 2011-12 seasons. Penn State is hoping a few accolades will come their way.

Penn State men’s basketball player Tim Frazier (Breakout Performer of the Year), wrestling (Men’s Team of the Year) and Women’s Basketball (Women’s Team of the Year) are among those nominated for awards. Wrestling coach Cael Sanderson and women’s basketball Coquese Washington are nominated for the Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year awards, respectively.
Frazier played in 32 games and averaged 18.8 points per game, 6.2 assists per game, 4.7 rebounds and converted on 79.1% of his free throw opportunities. The Houston native also hit 27 three-point shots and had 76 steals. Frazier may be a long-shot in this category, as Wisconsin running back Montee Ball could run away with this category after a Heisman-finalist season leading the Badgers to another Rose Bowl berth.
Penn State’s wrestling won a second straight national championship, and Big Ten Network blogger Brent Yarina calls them the favorite to win this category over Wisconsin football and cross country and Ohio State men’s basketball.
Penn State women’s basketball earned the top seed in the Big Ten tournament this season but failed to capture the conference championship when a buzzer beater against Purdue gave Penn State an early exit. The Lady Lions advanced as a four-see din the NCAA Tournament and advanced past the first two rounds despite playing LSU on their home court. A Sweet 16 match-up against Connecticut ended the season.
