Penn State’s Christian Hackenberg named Big Ten Freshmen of the Week

Even though, the Penn State Nittany Lions lost on Saturday night to the UCF Golden Knights 34-31, freshman quarterback Christian Hackenberg is still collecting accolades for his outstanding play so far this season.

Today, for the second time this season Hackenberg was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after he threw for 262 yards and a touchdown on Saturday against UCF. The first time Hackenberg was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week was after the Nittany Lions defeated Syracuse in Week 1.

So far this season, Hackenberg has thrown for 851 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions. Not bad numbers for a freshman quarterback playing in the Big Ten. The freshman quarterback will have one more tune up game next week versus Kent State before Big Ten play start.

A lot of scouts are impressed by Hackenberg’s play and he is only a freshman. Just imagine what he can be like as a junior or senior, we could be looking at a future first round pick in the making and what helps him the most is he is under the tutelage of Bill O’Brien, who coached one of the best quarterbacks ever in Tom Brady.

The offense Penn State runs is pro style, so Hackenberg already has the upper hand plus look at last year’s start Mike McGloin who is on the Oakland Raiders roster.
