Peyton Manning’s G.O.A.T?

Wheelerfdoy

There is no question that the buzz around the league is Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. In the 12′-13′ NFL season, Manning lead the Broncos to an amazing 13-3 record in the regular season. With so much expectations in the 2013 playoffs, the Broncos lost their first divisional game against the defending champions, the Baltimore Ravens. The Broncos are 4-0 thanks to the record setting performance Manning has done with 16 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. Manning leads the NFL in completion percentage with 75%.  On top of that, Manning has thrown for 1470 yards in only the first four games of the regular season. That’s unbelievable! The question is where does Manning rank among the best quarterbacks to ever play the game?

Passing Yards

1. Brett Favre

2. Dan Marino

3. Peyton Manning

4. John Elway

5. Warren Moon

Manning ranks third in the NFL ever in passing yardage with 60,957. There are only two people ahead of him and that is Brett Favre and Dan Marino. Manning has a cannon of an arm and has proven that over the years. His arm strength was never a concern for Manning and he has proven to squeeze the ball into tight spaces over the years.

Passing TDs

1. Brett Favre – 508

2. Peyton Manning – 452

3. Dan Marino – 420

4. Fran Tarkenton – 342

5. Tom Brady – 341

Manning ranks second in the NFL ever in passing td’s with 452. Most likely, he will pass Favre’s record by the way he is playing. Manning still has a couple years left in him to get the record and it will sure be a great achievement for his career.

Manning the Great

Is Manning really the G.O.A.T? To be the best QB of all time, not only does your regular season numbers have to be the best but your postseason numbers matters also. It’s about what QB can get it done when it counts. In close moments in the playoffs, Manning just seems to choke when the game is on the line. His younger brother Eli Manning has two superbowls but isn’t even close to the numbers his brother has.

Manning is in the top five in both categories for career yards and touchdowns but is that enough to mention him one of the best quarterbacks to ever play? Unfortunately the answer is no simply because of the number of super bowls Manning has. Manning only has one ring for his career. Brady has 3 rings but has been to the superbowl five times in his career. Joe Montana has been to four superbowls and won all of them. He was absolutely amazing in the playoffs. Manning has led the Indianapolis Colts to two super bowls and won only one. Manning knows that this season with the Broncos is a superbowl or bust for them. If he wants to be mentioned as one of the best qbs to ever play the game of football, then he needs at least two more superbowls. With the team that he has, there is no question that he can get it done. The Broncos are the AFC favorites this year and if healthy, should make it to the big dance in 2014.

Mannings career stats

65.4 pct %, 60,957 yards, 452 td, 209 int, 96.5 qb rate
