Phil B’s painful recap

He recaps 2010

Which leads us to head coaching. I’m not convinced Jim Caldwell is the guy to lead this team. I haven’t been for some time. I like the guy, personally. He’s as professional and friendly as you could ever ask a coach to be, dare I say even more than Tony Dungy. But two timeout calls this season really had me scratching my head. I hate to be a knee-jerk reactionary on such things, but both were costly. The Jaguars were settling for overtime when he called a timeout. Given the time to re-assess, the Jaguars went for the win and got it, albeit on a 59-yard field goal. And it would have been better if Jets kicker Nick Folk had a field goal of 49 or 50 yards, with all of that pressure, than a 32-yarder, which ended the Colts season in a 17-16 Jets playoff victory. Caldwell shouldn’t have called that timeout, which gave the Jets a chance to call an 18-yard pass play and shorten the distance on that kick.
