Phil Richards gets defensive

They really played great yesterday

While the offense was failing on fourth-and-1 and turning the football over to the Jaguars at their 35 with 1:59 to play, middle linebacker/co-captain Gary Brackett had the defense gathered around him on the sidelines.

“This is the situation we want,” Brackett told his mates. “In order to prove we’re one of the top defenses in the league, we need to make statements early. We need to prove to people we can make stops.”

Seconds later, offense and defense passed, one coming off the field, the other going on. Wayne was disappointed, but reassured.

“Just watching them with fire in their eyes,” he said. “Everybody was like, ‘That’s all right. We got this.’ “
