Today, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Philadelphia 76ers were looking for a win in the nation’s capital where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech back in 1963.
The Philadelphia 76ers loss today to the Washington Wizards 107-99 despite 31 points from rookie point guard Michael Carter-Williams. But in general, the Sixers did not shoot the ball well from three point range and again they played terrible defense.
Majority of the Wizards’ starting lineup was in double figures except Nene Hilario. Bradley Beal led the Wiz in scoring today with 22 points and had nine rebounds to go along with eight assists. While watching today’s game, you had to think triple-double alert.
His backcourt mate, John Wall did not go off. Wall scored 14 points to go along with five rebounds and five assists. Center Marcin Gortat dominated the Sixers inside, scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Gortat would also have four of the Wizards’ 11 blocks.
The Wizards would also go to the line 35 times which kept them in the game and gave them the lead throughout.
For the Sixers, Michael Carter-Williams was the star of the show scoring 31 points while getting to the line eight times. Carter-Williams would play 34 minutes as guard Tony Wroten did not play due to a right ankle sprain.
Big man Spencer Hawes, who is 11th in three point shooting, had a double-double in today’s game consisting of 11 points and 16 rebounds.
Finally, the Sixers continued to shoot horrendously from the three point line as today they were 4 of 18.
The Sixers now have a record of 13-28 and a record of 5-16 on the road. They next play on Wednesday night, as they travel to Madison Square Garden to take on Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks.
