The Philadelphia 76ers have signed DeWayne Dedmon. ESPN’s Marc Stein reported that Dedmon and the 76ers were close to a deal, but USA Today Sports’ Sam Amick was the first to confirm the deal.
Can confirm Dewayne Dedmon 10-day call-up. He’s heading to Philly, where they cut Daniel Orton recently. Big man was w/ Santa Cruz Warriors.

This is only a 10-day- call-up. It is likely that this deal will get bigger though.
Dedmon is a 24 year old center who went to college at USC. He is 7-feet tall and has a 7-foot-4 wingspan. He averaged 15.7 points, 14 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks in 34 minutes per game in the D-League this season. He shot an extraordinary 54.4% from the field. Those are some impressive numbers, but it is just the D-League, and there is no guarantee that those numbers will translate to success in the NBA.
I might be way off here, but I think the signing of Dedmon could mean that a Spencer Hawes trade is coming. I mean, who would play center for the Sixers if they traded Hawes? Lavoy Allen? No, I don’t think so. That is just a thought though, and I’m probably wrong.
This is a great signing by the 76ers. If Dedmon plays well for them then they will probably extend his deal. If he plays poorly then no harm will be done, they can just move on after his 10-day deal is up.
