Philadelphia Eagles acquire RB Kenjon Barner from Carolina Panthers

Oakland Athletics v Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

You might as well start calling the Philadelphia Eagles running back U as they have added another back to the fold. Just announced by the team, they have acquired running back Kenjon Barner from the Carolina Panthers for a conditional seventh round draft pick in 2015.

For the Eagles, this gives them another running back that can also return kicks. As of right now rookie wide receiver Josh Huff, who is on kick return duty, has an AC sprain in his shoulder and hopes to be ready for the first game of the regular season. With Huff most likely sitting out the last two games of the preseason, expect to see a lot of Kenjon Barner in the kick return role.

Barner is a familiar face to Chip Kelly, as he played under him at Oregon. He was drafted in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft and did not get a lot of playing time in Carolina. As a rookie last season, in eight games, he had six carries for seven yards and two receptions for seven yards.  Finally, as a kick returner he had two returns for 17 yards.

The Eagles backfield now gets a tad bit more crowded with Barner added to the mix with already LeSean McCoy, Chris Polk, Darren Sproles, Matthew Tucker, Henry Josey, and David Fluellen. With McCoy and Sproles having the first and second spots locked up, there will be competition for the third spot on this team.
