The Philadelphia Eagles have a long history of playing football. The Eagles won three NFL championships, but have only been to two Super Bowls. They lost in 1980 to the Oakland Raiders, and lost again in 2004 for the New England Patriots. As Eagles fans, we’ve also had a long history. We’ve watched this team come up short year after year, for decades. However, across several decades we’ve seen some pretty good quarterbacks come through Philadelphia. Here’s my list of the top 5 Philadelphia Eagles QBs of all time.
5. Ron “Jaws” Jaworski
Ron Jaworski played 10 years for the Eagles. He set the record for most career touchdowns with the team, as he threw for 170 TDs. His overall record with the team was right around the .500 mark, but he will always be known for losing the 1980 Super Bowl versus the Oakland Raiders. Jaws seemed to never get hurt, which is a rarity among quarterbacks. He threw for over 26,000 as well.

4. Tommy Thompson
Thompson played for the Eagles from 1941-1950. He threw for around 10,000, 90 touchdowns, and 100 interceptions in 8 seasons. Remember, Thompson played in the old days when the game was played differently. Thompson makes this list because he won 2 NFL Championships with the birds. Amazingly, Thompson played at a relatively high level while being blind in one eye. He won a pair of NFL Chips in poor conditions, so he’s a winner. The Philadelphia Eagles haven’t had many winners in their history, so that’s enough for ole Tommy to make the cut.
3. Norm Van “The Dutchman” Brocklin
Norm Van Brocklin only played 3 seasons with the Eagles. Brocklin was simply, a stud. Van Brocklin brought home to the last football championship to the city of Philadelphia. He led the only team who beat the Lombardi Packers in the playoffs. He threw for over 7,000 yards and had a TD-Int ratio of 55:51. He was a winner, and the Eagles haven’t had a real one since The Dutchman.
2. Randall Cunningham
Cunningham was the victim of poor coaching, poor play calling, and never getting help on the offensive side of the ball. He was one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the history of the NFL (See #1 for another top mobile QB), and he helped change the Eagles culture from being a perrennial loser. Over his 11-year career with the Eagles, he threw for over 22,000 yards, rushed for over 4,000 yards, threw for 150 touchdowns versus 105 interceptions, and rushed for 32 rushing touchdowns. The only real negative Cunningham had throughout his career was that
1. Donovan McNabb
I know I will get some hate for calling McNabb the best QB in Eagles history, but he was. He was also the most critized Eagle in history. From day one the fanbase didn’t like him, and that critiscm stayed in the back of our heads throughout his career. Maybe he didn’t bring home a Super Bowl, but McNabb did bring us to the NFC Championsip game 5 times, including 4 in a row. He threw for over 32,000 yards, rushed for over 3,000, threw 215 TDs versus 100 INTs, and rushed for 28 touchdowns. McNabb was a stud. He made Freddie Mitchell and Todd Pinkston household names. Remarkable. Mickey-D may never get the credit he deserves from most Eagles fans, but in reality, he was the greatest Eagles QB of all time.
