The Philadelphia Flyers will have an-all Pennsylvania minor league system for the first time since 1997-98 as today they announced that they have signed a two-year agreement with the Reading Royals of the ECHL.
If you do not remember in the AHL, the Phantoms were in Adirondack and now they are going to be in Lehigh Valley this upcoming season.
Flyers new general manager Ron Hextall said about the all Pennsylvania minor league system, “The geographic proximity of our minor-league affiliations in the Lehigh Valley and Reading will give our coaches and scouting department the best possible platform to monitor, and promote the growth and advancement of our young prospects.”
In 2013, the Royals won the ECHL’s Kelly Cup Championship and already have two players from the Flyers on their roster on assignment from the 2013-14 season. Those players are goaltender Carsen Chubak and forward Doug Clarkson.
If you remember this past season, the Greenville Road Warriors were the Flyers’ ECHL affiliate and then before that it was the Trenton Titans. The Titans ceased operations during the 2013-14 season.
