With the MLB trade deadline only 13 days away, there have been many rumors about the Philadelphia Phillies and their players such as A.J. Burnett, Marlon Byrd, Cole Hamels, and Cliff Lee. Out of those four, it seems like Cole Hamels will not be dealt at the deadline.
According to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com, the Phillies are showing no inclination to trade Cole Hamels. I am not shocked that Hamels name has been brought up in trade rumors but I highly doubt that he will be moved. He is the pitcher that you can build around going forward. This season, despite getting no run support, Hamels has a 3-5 record with a 2.93 ERA.
So there is no need to trade Hamels but there is no problem with gauging interest amongst teams. The only team that seemed interested was the Boston Red Sox.
According to Bradford, the Red Sox checked on the availability of Hamels earlier in the season but after that, there hasn’t been any more discussions regarding the pitcher.
If I was a betting man, I would say that Hamels wouldn’t get moved but there is a better chance that his teammates, A.J. Burnett or Cliff Lee will get moved at the deadline.
