Philadelphia PowerPlay vs. Flyers Alumni 6/17/16

ASTON, PA: It has been a few weeks since the inaugural posting of “Casual Friday’s with CPC”, which means this second edition is long over-due. I am breaking my own rules this time around, as some of you are aware, this segment is dedicated to you loyal followers of Complete Philly Coverage, in which we ask you to write up a story about some of your favorite sports moments and randomly pick two that we share on our site. This time I decided to dedicate this segment to a very special moment I experienced last Friday night at Neumann University (my Alma Mater).

I was invited to watch Lauren Shipman, one of my closest friends from Neumann, and the rest of her PowerPlay teammates take on some members from the Flyers alumni and front office staff. Notable Flyers greats that took part in this wonderful game were: Jim Watson, Brad Marsh, and Todd Fedoruk. To top it off, Flyers legendary public-address announcer, Lou Nolan, was on the mic doing what he does best. I can not stress how genuine everyone from the Flyers organization was. It made for quite a memorable night.

The game itself was an action-packed thriller. Both teams exchanged a slew of goals, ten in total, sending the game into an even more exciting overtime! Just a couple minutes into overtime, forward Liam Miller powered through the Flyers alumni defense, creating an open lane for his team-mate Alex Pitts, Liam then passed it over to Alex, who sniped the game-winning-goal top shelf, over the shoulder of ex-Flyer Todd Fedoruk. The crowd went crazy, it just does not get any better than that!

After the game the Flyers PowerPlay generously served food and drink to all in attendance, including the Flyers alumni and front office staff, who stayed and spent even more time with the teams family and friends.

Any time I get to spend with my friend Lauren Shipman and her family is special, but a night like that was one I will never forget. I plan on supporting her and her team-mates for the remainder of their season, including the upcoming Power Hockey Cup Tournament at the PA Convention Center. The tournament takes place from July 8th through July 11th. For more information visit: http://powerhockeycup.com/2016/
