We continue our Philadelphia Soul player profile series and turn our attention back to the offensive side ball with the workhorse fullback, Jeramie Richardson. Richardson is heading into his first year as a member of the Philadelphia Soul and his fourth year overall in the Arena Football league. He has been integral part of the Soul’s offense this season and has taken some pressure off Raudabaugh when they get into the Geico blue zone.
Richardson is from San Antonio, Texas and went to Angelo State, where he played football there and went undrafted in 2005. Richardson started his professional football career in 2010 with an indoor team called the San Angelo Stampede Express, who were apart of the Lone Star Football League, but folded in 2012. In 2011, Richardson joined the Utah Blaze of the Arena Football League and only got in one game that season as he was mainly a member of their practice squad. Things picked for Richardson when he joined the Cleveland Gladiators in 2012 and started in all 16 games as a defensive lineman and fullback. He recorded 14 touchdowns as a fullback and had 15 tackles and 1.5 sacks as a defensive lineman.
In 2013, Richardson split time between the Orlando Predators and the New Orleans VooDoo and saw a decreased workload, only registering 13 carries for 32 yards and two touchdowns between the two teams. Richardson moved onto the San Antonio Talons the next season and played in all 17 games strictly on the defensive side of the ball, tallying 29 tackles and five sacks. Richardson rejoined the Cleveland Gladiators in 2015 and got back to being a fullback, rushing for 93 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games.
The Philadelphia Soul acquired Jeramie Richardson this past offseason and he has been well worth it, leading the team in rushing and being a huge threat in the Geico blue zone. Richardson has already set a career-high in rushing yards with 151, which is good for second best in the Arena Football League. Richardson also has reached double-digits in rushing touchdowns with 10 for only the second time in his career and it’s only matter of time before he sets a new career-high in this category as well.
Jeramie Richardson has been a crucial part of the Soul’s offense this year whether it’s him barreling into the end zone for a touchdown or feeding him the ball to run out the clock, the contribution he has made to the team cannot be denied. The Soul are back in action this Saturday night at 7 pm as they visit hated rival the Cleveland Gladiators and the game can be viewed on the CBS Sports Network.
