Philadelphia Soul Player Profile: Sean Daniels

In our fourth edition of Philadelphia Soul player profiles, we would like to introduce you to Temple Owl product, and current Soul rookie defensive-lineman, Sean Daniels. Born on November 13th, 1991, in Blackwood, NJ, he attended Highland Regional high school where he started as an outside linebacker, but was also given reps on the offensive side of the ball. During his senior year, he rushed for 1,365 yards, and recorded 14 touchdowns, on 155 carries. He also threw shot put for the school’s track team.

In 2010 Daniels was recruited by Temple’s football program and would go on to start as one of the few true freshman. Aside from playing as defensive-lineman, Daniels was given reps on the kick-off and punt return units. In seven games played he recorded 8 tackles, 6 solo, 2 assisted, and 4 sacks for a total loss of 32 yards. In his tenure with the Temple Owls Daniels played in a total of 27 games and recorded 38 tackles and 9 sacks for a loss of 78 yards.

Daniels got his call to the Soul last month, and started his first game on May 14th against the Arizona Rattlers. He made quite an impression in the Soul’s big win, as he recorded two tackles, forced a fumble, and ran back an on-side kick for a 13-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. He would scoop up two more on-side kicks the following week (May 21st), as the team handed the Orlando Predators their first loss of the season. In the three games of his young rookie season, Sean’s recorded 5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 3 on-side kick recoveries.  Clearly he has been a force on the Soul’s special teams unit and is certainly a player to keep an eye on for the remainder of the season.

The Soul return to action on Saturday night, May 4th at 7pm, as they look to seek revenge from the Jacksonville Sharks, who handed Philadelphia their first loss of the season, back on April 11th. You can catch the game on CBS Sports Network and 97.5 The Fanatic.
