Our Philadelphia Soul player profile series continues as we flip things to the defensive side of the ball to talk about defensive back Tracy Belton. Belton is in his first year with the Soul and has been a huge playmaker for their defense so far in the 2016 campaign.

Belton played football at UMass and graduated from there in 2006. He earned first team All-Atlantic 10 his senior year after racking up 77 tackles and two interceptions. Belton started his Arena Football League career in 2010 with the Milwaukee Iron setting a single-season franchise record in tackles as a rookie with 100.5 and added seven interceptions.

Belton would spend the 2011 and 2012 seasons with the Georgia Force, having 20 total interceptions over the two-year span and earning Second Team All-Arena honors in 2012, after having 11 interceptions and a touchdown. Belton moved onto the Jacksonville Sharks in 2013, gathering 94.5 tackles and three interceptions in 18 starts. In 2014, Belton would split time between Jacksonville and the Orlando Predators compiling 71.5 tackles and five interceptions. Belton joined the New Orleans Voodoo in 2015, his fourth different team in five years, where he tallied 66 tackles and had three interceptions.

The Philadelphia Soul signed Tracy Belton this past offseason and he’s been well worth it. Belton already has four interceptions through the first six games and three of them have been pick-sixes, which is a career-high for him. He also has one fumble recovery on the year and he is currently second on the team in tackles with 26 only behind Joe Goosby.

The combination of Tracy Belton, James Romain, and Dwayne Hollis have been nightmares for opposing quarterbacks to deal with this year. These three have been ball hawks all around in the secondary and Tracy Belton has set the tone.
