Philadelphia Soul Player Profile: WR Darius “Money” Reynolds

Welcome back to another edition of getting to know the Philadelphia Soul! Today’s player profile features the man who’s been “Money” in the back of the end zone for the Soul, wide-receiver, Darius Reynolds.

Born in Woodbridge, VA, the now 27 year old attended C.D. Hylton High School, where he lettered in football, basketball, and track and field. He played quarterback for the Bulldogs, and led them to a 12-1 record and the semi-finals his junior year. During his senior year he threw for 1,500 yards and recorded 20 touchdowns. He later enrolled to Reedley College in 2007, where he participated in both track and field and football for the Reedley College Tigers. During his freshman year, Reynolds passed for 1,752 yards and 13 touchdowns and rushed for 749 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Tigers finished the season with a record of 8-2.

In 2011, Reynolds transferred to Iowa State University where he studied Communications and would go on to play wide-receiver for the Iowa State Cyclones. In his senior year, he led the Cyclones with 43 receptions, 695 receiver yards, and 7 touchdowns. He would go on to finish his career at Iowa State with 81 receptions, 1,050 receiving yards and 9 receiving touchdowns.

Reynolds’ professional career would begin in 2012, when the AFL’s Iowa Barnstormers signed him on July 2nd.  By 2014, Reynolds would tally a total of 126 receptions, 1,884 receiving yards, and 39 receiving touchdowns, and was named Second Team All-Arena.

In 2015 the Barnstormers decided to leave the AFL, which led to Reynolds’ assignment to the San Jose Sabercats, who would go on to defeat the Jacksonville Sharks in Arena Bowl XXVIII. “Money” would then be assigned to the Philadelphia Soul back on February 5th of this year, where he was practically recruited by Soul head coach and AFL hall of famer, Clint Dolezel. He had high expectations about Reynolds that proved to be 100% accurate as he is having a monstrous year. He’s 4th on the AFL receiving leaders list with 1,314 total yards and 33 touchdowns. Those numbers further prove why teammate, starting quarterback, Dan Raudabaugh, nicknamed him “Money”. Dan mentioned in an interview earlier in the season that he is “money” when it comes to finding him in the back of the end zone. Reynolds has scored multiple game changing touchdowns including a few highlight reel receptions, in which he’s slammed and flipped over the wall.

Darius puts his heart and “Soul” on the line every time he sets foot on the field. He will be a crucial target for the remainder of the Soul’s regular season and when they begin their playoff push in August.
