The 2015 Phillies season wrapped up today at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies would beat the Marlins 7-2, which means one thing.
Avoid 100 Losses!!!
Thats right, this may have been one of the worst Phillies teams ever, but realistically, it was a successful season. Here’s why
1. We got the first pick in the draft
2. We traded Cole Hamels for a quality package
3. We got rid of Papelbon
4. Young guys shined this year
5. The farm system is loaded
6. We fired Ruben(kinda)
Maikel Franco was outstanding in only 79 games, hitting .278 with 14 homers and 50 RBIs. Odubel Herrera hit .297 with 8 homers and 41 RBIs, he also stole 16 bases. He’s a guy who will compete for a job in a crowed outfield next year. Aaron Altherr was a late season call up who had 5 homers, 4 triples, and 11 doubles.
From a pitching standpoint, Aaron Nola and Jerad Eickhoff were the story of the second half. Nola, the 2014 first round pick, went 6-2 with a 3.59 ERA in 13 starts. Eickhoff was acquired in the Hamels deal and went 3-3 with a 2.65 ERA in 8 starts.
It was hard to see guys like Chase, Cole, and Ben Revere go, but for the sake of the franchise it was the right move. The farm system is now loaded. JP Crawford, the top prospect could end in Philly as early as next summer. Nick Williams and Jake Thompson, who were acquired in the Hamels trade, are also expected to break through to the majors next season.
This will be an interesting off season, but one thing is for sure, the Phillies are headed in the right direction.
2015 Philadelphia Phillies: 63-99
