Plenty has been made about Roy Halladay's struggles early on this season. But is the Philadelphia Phillies pitching staff really in that bad of shape?
Consider this…on Wednesday, the Fightins inked career head case Carlos Zambrano to a Minor League deal.
"We are just looking to add some depth, starting pitching depth," Phillies assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said. "Right now (Zambrano) will go to extended spring training and throw bullpens and progress from there. No promises were made. It is just an opportunity to add to the starting pitching."
Last season, Zambrano went 7-10 with a 4.49 ERA for the Miami Marlins. Not too shabby considering how terrible they were. But given dude's history of erratic behavior, the Phillies must really be desperate to throw money at the 31-year-old righty.
