Phillies Interested In Trading For David Price

The Phillies’ rotation in 2013 wasn’t very good. The first two guys in their rotation, Cole Hamels and Cliff Lee, did very well last season. The last three men in the Phillies’ rotation struggled mightily. If they want to compete in 2014, then I think that they need to get at least one more good starting pitcher. The Phillies have interest in Rays’ left handed pitcher, David Price, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

The Phillies current rotation right now isn’t too bad, but it is lacking depth. Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels are tremendous, but the final three players in the rotation aren’t very good at all. It is unlikely that Roy Halladay will return next season and the only other two pitchers on the team that have started a game for them are Jonathan Pettibone and Ethan Martin. Both of those pitchers are mediocre, at best. They don’t have too much to turn to in the farm system either, so they definitely need to sign or trade for a starting pitcher, and Price would be a tremendous upgrade. Price would come at a high price though; the Phillies would likely have to give up Jesse Biddle or Domonic Brown in a package to get Price, but even then they would still probably be outbid by another team.

I like the fit, I think that David Price would certainly help the Phillies. He would make their pitching rotation one of the best in the league. With this being said, I still don’t think that he is worth trading for. I am not willing to give up a good prospect in an already depleted farm system. Instead, I would like to see the Phillies get low risk, high reward type guys, like Ricky Nolasco, Matt Garza, and maybe even Dan Haren. All of these guys could help the Phillies rotation.

Right now, I just think that the Phillies should stay away from David Price, and not risk hurting an already depleted farm system.
