The Philadelphia Phillies’ outfield is lacking depth. They have two solid starters, Ben Revere in center field, and Domonic Brown in left field. Their 2014 right fielder is unknown at the moment. One person that could be their right fielder in 2014 is Shin-Soo Choo.

Shin-Soo Choo is a 31 year old left handed outfielder. Last year with the Cincinnati Reds, he hit .285, with 21 home runs and 54 runs batted in. That is very solid, but there’s one more stat separates him from other outfielders on the market right now; his on base percentage was .423 last season. That was one of the best on base percentages in the entire MLB last season. He also had a WAR of 5.2, which means he was having a very positive effect on the Reds. His defense wasn’t too good last season, but with offensive stats like that, you have to find a spot for him in the lineup.

If the Phillies signed him, then I think it’s safe to assume that he would hit first or second in their lineup, and if he continues to get on base like he has before, then he will be set up perfectly to score runs. He also has the ability to steal bases, so he will be in scoring position a lot, so the big hitters, like Chase Utley, Domonic Brown, and maybe even Ryan Howard will have a chance to drive him in. Choo could really help this flustered Phillies offense.

At this point, I see no reason that the Phillies shouldn’t sign Choo. They are loaded with cash, and he can really help them. If they sign him, then they would have Darin Ruf as their fourth outfielder, and he is a very good player to turn to off of the bench. Signing Shin-Soo Choo makes so much sense for the Phillies right now.
