The Phillies made some minor moves today, outrighting some players off their 40-man roster. Among those names is outfielder Dom Brown. The writing was on the wall all of last year that Brown’s days with the Phillies were numbered, and the club finally decided to take action today. It’s just another step into creating a new image for the franchise and getting rid of most of the pieces from the old regime.
I’m not surprised this happened since the Phillies should have addressed this sooner. Aside from that one solid month in May of the 2013 season, Brown has been dead weight on the Phillies, and has never again shown any flashes of being worth something. Since the 2013 season, Brown has hit a combined 15 home runs and has failed to stay consistently healthy. However, It still perplexes me as to how one of the best prospects in baseball regressed so much in such a short time period. I guess you can call it a fluke or something like that, and you can add it to long list of the club’s shortcomings over the past four years.
Whether or not Dom Brown decides to stay in the organization is up to him, but this move is what’s best for the Phillies. The future of the franchise was never going to include Brown, and they will be better off without him.
In my opinion, it’s time for the club to move on.
