The Philadelphia Phillies announce today that second baseman Chase Utley has been placed on the 15 day disabled list. Utley is going on the disabled list because he has been diagnosed with a mild grade 1 oblique strain. The Phillies have not decided who will replace Utley on the 25 man roster.
Phils GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said about the injury, “We do believe and hope that Chase will be ready to play in Philadelphia within 15 days.” Utley actually has been having a solid season batting .272 with seven home runs and 25 RBI. He has also played in 44 of the team’s first 45 games of the season. While Utley is out, Freddy Galvis who has been used all over the field will be playing second base for the foreseeable future.
