Yesterday marked the 1,000th regular season game played at Citizens Bank Park for the Phillies, who were swept by the Nationals after dropping the series finale 7-2 and now have lost 10 of their last 12 games.
Citizens Bank Park, rated one of the best ballparks in the country, became the Phillies’ new home in 2004 after the club decided to part ways with Veterans Stadium after 33 years. Citizens Bank Park hosted its first regular season game on April 12, 2004 when the Phillies fell to the Cincinnati Reds 4-1 in front of a capacity crowd at the Bank.
Since its opening, Citizens Bank Park has seen the Phillies capture a World Series Trophy, two National League Pennants, five straight NL East titles, a no-hitter, the 2012 NHL Winter Classic, and hosted countless concerts. No matter what you are going there for, you can be sure there isn’t a bad seat in the house and you will probably find yourself back at the Bank at some point.
Citizens Bank Park has been home sweet home for the Phillies since its opening in 2004 as the club has a 545-455 record there and at one point witnessed a 123-game sellout streak thanks to the best fans in all of baseball.
Home-field advantage is especially key in the playoffs and the Phillies make it count with a 18-9 record when they play at home in the postseason, including a 4-2 record in World Series games at the Bank.
After 12 years of being the home of the Phillies, Citizens Bank Park continues to be one of the premier ballparks in the MLB and a hotspot for people to spend their summer nights. There is truly no place like home and here’s to another 1,000 games more at Citizens Bank Park.
