After last night’s game relief pitcher Brett Myers walked past Cole Hamels and said, “What are you doing here? I thought you quit.” This led to Hamels swearing at Myers before they were separated.
Yesterday Hamels said he wished the season would be over because it has been so difficult for him. This has made it so that the Phillies have a roster spot being filled by a pitcher that may not want to be there. Hamels is a guy that Manuel would normally turn to in the series reaches a game seven but that is not likely to happen now.
UPDATE: Myers is saying the incident was inaccurately reported:
“He quit,” Myers cracked.
That is a common response from Myers and others in the Phillies clubhouse when somebody asks where somebody is. A few minutes later as Hamels and Casterioto stood in front of Hamels’ locker, Myers walked past and said, “What are you doing here? I thought you quit?”
Hamels, who was unavailable to comment, replied with an expletive, which even took Myers off guard.
Hamels is sensitive to the word “quit” these days after he told reporters following Game 3 of the World Series that he couldn’t wait for the season to end. Myers said he was unaware of Hamels’ comments following Game 3, although the comments have upset some players inside the Phillies clubhouse.
