Phoenix Suns Draft Pick Devin Booker Off To A Slow Start In Las Vegas Summer League

With the Phoenix Suns using a two-guard attack led by Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight, they had to make moves concerning the rest of their roster through free agency and the NBA Draft, and it is these moves that should bolster Suns ticket sales. The Suns signed former Dallas Mavericks center Tyson Chandler to a four-year, $52 million deal to work with Alex Len, and acquired Jon Leuer in a draft day deal with the Memphis Grizzlies.

The team still desired shooting, and used the 2015 NBA Draft to get their guy, Devin Booker. Booker was one of, if not the most prolific, three-point shooters in college basketball last season at Kentucky, hitting 41.1 percent of his shots behind the arc. Booker was the youngest player in the Draft and will provide spacing that the Suns didn’t have last season.

The Suns are currently participating in the Las Vegas Summer League, which started on July 10 and will conclude on July 20. Booker struggled in the team’s first contest against the Washington Wizards, shooting 4-for-11 from the floor, including going 0-for-4 from the three-point line. He finished with 12 points, four rebounds and an assist. Unfortunately for the Suns, Booker also struggled in the team’s second game against the Houston Rockets, shooting 2-for-12 from the floor, including another 0-for-4 performance from long distance.

Archie Goodwin and T.J. Warren, who have the most experience on the Suns’ summer league roster, are leading the team. Goodwin and Warren are both averaging 21 points per game in their two games played.

The Suns next contest is on July 14 against the Utah Jazz at the Thomas & Mack Center. Fans can get a head start on the NBA season by using Hipmunk.com for Las Vegas flights, which can be booked through most major airlines. Hipmunk also has Las Vegas hotels starting from $20 per night for those looking for an extended stay.

Other players on the Suns roster include their 2014 second-round pick Alec Brown, Luke Harangody, Justin Carter, Justin Harper, Josh Harrellson, Mike James, Jerel McNeal and Mickey McConnell.

The Suns took a step back from their 2013-14 season that saw them have a record that was 14 games above .500. Looking to have a little better luck when it comes to player injuries, the Suns are looking to make the postseason for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign.
