A lot of the chatter heading into Hall of Fame Weekend surrounds which cap each of the newly inducted players will be wearing.
This year, it’s pretty simple. Ken Griffey Junior will be going in as a member of the Seattle Mariners and Mike Piazza, he’ll be joining Tom Seaver as just the second member of the New York Mets.
But when the catcher visited Jimmy Kimmel Monday night, the talk wasn’t about head gear…it was all about facial hair.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRfK_n34NUQ]“A lot of fans were saying ‘you’ve gotta grow the chops back, you’ve gotta go with the fu Manchu or the goatee,” Piazza told the latenight host. “I tried to grow it back a few months ago and it was grey. I want people to remember me as the cool guy…not the old guy who puts the shoe polish on the goatee.”
Personally, I hope Piazza’s plaque immortalizes him and his signature fu manchu-style mustache. Then again, I also think it would be fun if he went in as a member of the Florida Marlins…so what do I know?
