Picks For The Weak- Week One

It’s here! Week one of the college football season is upon us and it’s time for tBBC College Pick-Em Challenge and my few thoughts on some of the games I picked. I am usually a perfectionist and like to do a lot of research about teams before making an educated guess, but today I am against a deadline and will go with my gut instincts on these. Let’s get started with the top match-up of the very young season. Follow this link to sign up for our pick-em and enjoy the season!

Picks For The Weak- Week One
Flexing the Sparty defensive muscle, breaking the Broncos

#13 Michigan St. v. #24 Boise St. – Coach Chris Petersen is one of the better coaches in the country and has had the Bronco’s on the cusp of greatness. He’s turned down some overtures from top programs to stick with what he has built and has an opportunity to pull off a shocker in East Lansing this Friday night. He’s got some talent on his high-powered offense that can crack MSU. It’s not going to happen though as this Sparty team possesses one of the best defenses in the country and are coached by one of my favorites in Mark Dantonio. This wont be a season where Sparty is, well . . , Sparty. MSU 21 – 7

Picks For The Weak- Week One
Not sure he will be eating as much as he gets ate by the Alabama D

#2 Alabama v. #8 TTUN – Denard Robinson and TTUN have an opportunity this weekend to send a message to the rest of the country that Wolverweenie football is truly back. The problem with that task is that they are playing the team that won the BCS Title last season and may be just as good this season. Alabama will be on a mission this year and they may have a shot at playing for the title outside of the SEC as USC appears to be the favorite. TTUN will put up a good fight this weekend and gain some respect for the B1G but they wont last against a very talented and well coached Crimson Tide. Alabama 21 – 10

#16 Virginia Tech v. Georgia Tech – You have to go with the sentimental pick here don’t you? Nicki Meyer is in her senior season for the Ramblin Wreck volleyball team so I am taking GT in the upset(not really). Virginia Tech has dominated the ACC since entering the conference and this season will be no different. VT will compete with Clemson and FSU for the overall title and has a shot to be in the mix in the end but the ACC has a poor history on the national stage. I am not real keen on these first games of the season against a conference opponent either. I’m going with the Hokies here in a romp. Virginia Tech 34 – 14

#25 Louisville v. Kentucky –  Might as well be the Hatfield v. the McCoys or East v. West. Is there any two in state rivalries that hate each other as much as these two? Their hardwood battles over the years have been epic but the ones on the gridiron – not so much. Battling for the Governor’s cup on the Cardinals home field is but a mere formality. UK’s basketball players aren’t playing and this team is just plain bad. Picked to finish dead last in the SEC East, they won’t be in this one for long. Louisville 42 – 3

Notre Dame v. Navy –  Playing the game in Dublin, Ireland will have some advantages for the Irish. The sites I here are fantastic and the trip itself will be fun. The Midshipmen broke a 43 game losing streak to the Irish in 2007 and have won in 2009 and 2010 since. Being a former Navy man myself I always root for them and underdog or not the Irish have had some preseason issues and will struggle to stop the triple-option. Navy 23 – 17

BTW – In the tie breakers at the bottom I picked Ohio State to score the most points(just sayin) and for Boston College to score the least! I thought that was sweet irony to say the least! Good luck and Go Bucks!
