Picnic In The Park Recap

It’s always been one of my dreams to get myself a ticket to the Red Sox Picnic In The Park event.  What’s Picnic In The Park you ask?  It’s an awesome event where after the game…you get to go out onto the field, cobblesquat on a blanket in the outfield, get stuff signed by players and just hang out and have a good time.  And of course…bring Wake some tater salad!! What’s even better is that all the money raised goes to the Red Sox Foundation to help with the Red Sox Scholars Program. Young people’s education is supported and kids who wouldn’t otherwise be able to, are now college bound.

This year…along with a few of my fav twitter ladies, we decided to stop dreaming about going to the event and to just “woman up” and buy tickets.  So, last Sunday…I made the drive into Boston for the event.  We didn’t have tickets to the game….so we all met up at Remy’s Sports Bar and Grill to watch it on their humongous tv screen.  We chatted, laughed and watched Clay pitch himself a gem.  We also watched Pap cough up another blown save…but that was just to bring us to another exciting walk off win. I really enjoyed watching the game at Remy’s.  It’s a sports bar/restaurant where people are actually watching the game…and cheering and clapping along with what is going on.

After the game, we scooted over to Fenway and made our way into the park.  Having things signed by the players….cool….for sure, but the best part of the event for me is hands down being able to walk all over the outfield.  As soon as we all got out there, we immediately took off our shoes and just ran all over the outfield with our bare feet.  Like you wouldn’t too?  We camped out in dead central in center field and then made our way to get some stuff signed.  At first, I camped out in the Beckett/Lowell/Cameron line, but those boys are way too popular and the line was way too long, so I ditched Becks and Co…and headed off to get my ball signed by others.

I ended up with a ball signed by Clay Buchholz, Jed Lowrie, Hideki Okajima, Darnell MacDonald and Kevin Youkilis.  I almost made it to the table with Bard, Kalish and VMart before time was up and autographs were over.  Next year boys…next year.  Here is a pic of Clay’s lovely signature on my Red Sox ball:

And…because I can’t help myself, I completely dorked out when getting my ball signed by Clay and Jed.  We all know I am a huge, monster Clay Buchholz fan.  I’ve been the NO TRADE CLAY girl for years.  So, as I approached Clay…I let him know that.  Told him that I’ve had NO TRADE CLAY on my twitter profile description for years….and that this was the first time at the trade deadline, I wasn’t on pins and needles hoping he’d still be with the team.  Clay said, “You and me both.”  Jed was right next to Clay…and I told Jed that HE was the one I was all nervous about at the trade deadline and we both remarked we were glad he was still with the team and back up in the bigs.  Then, I told Jed my nickname for him….JEDI WARRIOR.  Dork, party of one…that’s me.  Jed smiled and said he liked it.  I am pretty sure he was humoring me, but well…I’ll take it.  He was adorable.  I moved on to Oki…and smiled at him and told him that I LOVE LOVE LOVE him.  Given the press about Oki lately, if I could have…I would have given him a hug. Later on when I walked by Oki again, I smiled, waved and said hello again…and he smiled and waved back.

I could tell stories for days….but all in all, it was a great evening.  We all had a blast.  Oh…and I might have participated in the Player Auction.  Yep, might have.  And, I might have spent WAY TOO MUCH money and won something.  Might have.  I might be playing board games sometime coming up…with Mikey Lowell.  Yep.  I might also now be poorer than I ever imagined.  Might.

If you ever get the chance, I’d highly recommend going to Picnic In The Park.  It’s a great day for a great cause.  That event and many others that the Red Sox Foundation does help kids go to college that otherwise would never be able to.

P.S. I, of course…took pictures at the event, so expect another post coming in the next few days with the pictures of the event.
