Not surprisingly, neither Paul Pierce nor the Celtics are willing to talk about the incident in Las Vegas that resulted in the Finals MVP sporting police handcuffs for about 15 minutes. Here's what the Globe is reporting today:
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that Pierce had been handcuffed after making an illegal lane change in front of the Tropicana Hotel and Casino.
The Celtics yesterday said that NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Paul Pierce would not comment on the early Sunday morning incident during which he was stopped in Las Vegas for "erratic driving."
Pierce, driving a white BMW, was pulled over at about 3 a.m. Sunday. Pierce passed the field sobriety test, and a Breathalyzer determined that his blood alcohol content was below the .08 legal intoxication limit in Nevada.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Pierce was initially "uncooperative" after being stopped but calmed down after being handcuffed. The cuffs were removed after about 15 minutes, and Pierce was not cited for a traffic violation.
Pierce then left his car at valet parking and hired a taxi.
Neither Pierce's agent, Jeff Schwartz, nor Las Vegas police returned phone calls yesterday.
A lot of our readers feel like Pierce is the victim of a witch hunt. Sorry - I'm just trying to find out as much information as possible. I realize that he did not commit a crime, but this incident is clearly out of character for Paul and that's why it's worth discussing. You won't find a bigger PP fan than myself.
Most importantly, I found a ton of Celtics gear* on sale at Bob's and Sports Authority. You can pick up "We Beat LA" or "Eastern Conference Champion" t-shirts for $5. (Note to Lakers fans: it's cool to where conference champions shirts when the team goes on to win the title.)
* this offer only applies to fans who have purchased at least $30 in Red's Army merchandise.
