Pirates-Cardinals NLDS Game 2 Recap

Last night, the Cardinals beat the Pirates in game one of the NLDS. That win gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead in the NLDS. The Cardinals and the Pirates played again today, and the Pirates won 7-1. The series is tied 1-1.

This game was scoreless until the top of the second inning, when Pirates pitcher Gerrit Cole hit a single to center that scored Pedro Alvarez. This gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead. In the very next inning, Pedro Alvarez hit a 2-run home run to center field, and that gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead.

The pitcher for the Pirates, Gerrit Cole, pitched 6 innings, gave up 2 hits and one earned run. He did great today. The same can not be said for the the pitcher for the Cardinals, Lance Lynn; Lynn pitched 4.1 innings and gave up 5 earned runs. Today was not his day.

In the 5th inning, Marlon Byrd hit a ground rule double to right field, and that gave the Pirates a 4-0 lead. Later in the inning, Russell Martin hit a single to left that scored Marlon Byrd. This gave the Pirates a 5-0 lead.

The Cardinals did get one run on a Yadier Molina solo home run, but that’s all that they could score in the game today. The Pirates ended up winning 7-1, to even the series at 1.
