Pitcher Breaks Five-Year Hitless Drought

Pitcher Breaks Five-Year Hitless Drought

In the Majors, pitchers, while clearly not the best hitters on any team, do get base hits.  In the Korean Baseball Organization…notsomuch.

Sunday, in their game against the SK Wyverns, Hanwha Eagles reliever Yoon Keun-young be came the league's first pitcher since May 27, 2008 to get a hit in a game.  In the top of the 12th inning, tied 5-5, the reliever dropped a single into center and, suffice it to say, the place went bananas…thunder sticks and all.

Oh, and if this post has taught me anything it's this.

First, a wyvern is, according to Wikipedia, a legendary winged creature with a dragon's head, reptilian body, two legs (sometimes none) and a barbed tail.  Two, the KBO uses the DH…making a plate appearance (much less a hit) by a pitcher a rare feat.

Almost as rare as, you could say, a wyvern!
