There’s still time to register for the Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run on April 16
If you ever wanted to run on the field at PNC Park, but never thought you would because your baseball skills weren’t up to MLB standards, we’ve got good news! There’s still a chance for you to live your dream. Just sign up to participate in the April 16 Pittsburgh Pirates Home Run 5K, 10K or One Mile Family Fun Run – the finish line is on the field at PNC Park!
The event begins at 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 16 with runner/walker check-ins. The 5K and 10K races, which are sponsored by Allegheny Health Network and Highmark, begin at 7:30 a.m. and the One Mile Family Fun Run, sponsored by Chick-fil-A, begins at 8 a.m. The starting line for all races is W. General Robinson St. near Mazeroski Way.
The event, which has grown this year to include the additional 10K race, is in its sixth year and benefits Pirates Charities, the official philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The organization is committed to strengthening the community by supporting organizations and programs aimed at improving the lives of children and adults in the greater Pittsburgh region, placing a special emphasis on supporting youth programs focused on health, fitness, and education.
In 2015, some 5,000 runners and walkers participated in the Home Run 5K and One Mile Family Fun Run.
Participants registered in both the 5K and 10K races receive a commemorative tech T-Shirt and a finisher’s medal upon completion of the race. Participants in the One Mile Family Fun Run receive a specially-designed Fun Run T-Shirt and commemorative medal. Everyone involved is invited to a post-race party on Federal Street with complimentary food and beverages. Only runners in the 5K and 10K races will receive timing chips and official times for the event (staggered start times will be assigned at registration).
Aside from a shirt and some hardware, all participants receive a ticket voucher good for one free ticket to any one 2016 Pirates home game at PNC Park on either Saturday, April 16 (7:05 p.m.) or Sunday, April 17 (1:35 p.m.) against the Milwaukee Brewers; or Monday, May 2 (7:05 p.m.), Tuesday, May 3 (7:05 p.m.) or Wednesday, May 4 (12:35 p.m.) against the Chicago Cubs.
Registered participants can pick up race packets prior to game day. They are available at the Pittsburgh Pirates Administrative Offices, located on the corner of Federal and West General Robinson Streets at these dates/times:
April 9th and 10th: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
April 12th and 13th: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
April 15th: 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Packets contain a runner’s bib (for all participants), a timing chip for 5K and 10K runners only, a game ticket voucher, and a T-Shirt voucher.
