Pirates Flaunt Great Style, Great Causes and Great Cars

The Pittsburgh Pirates Headed Out West in Style – Rocking Fabulous Clothes and Supporting PGH Childrens’ Hospital and Cancer Research

The Pirates have been out west all week, requiring hard core fans to double up on the coffee (we here at Pirates Breakdown have experimented and determined that 4:30 p.m. is the perfect time to have that last cup of coffee to power you through some #LateNightBUCN) and no doze during the day. It’s hard on the players too, don’t forget, although they’re way too cool to let it show.

Reliever Mark Melancon started the road trip in style, looking every bit the superstar he is.

Judging from this post from August 15, 2015 on the luxury men’s sportswear shop’s Twitter page – this is a relationship that goes way back…

And while he’s rocking a more “buttoned up” look above, Mark also dresses up nicely in a t-shirt. Especially one that’s for a good cause.

T-shirt maker 108 Stitches recently launched its K Cancer t-shirt campaign and Melancon is the representative for the Pirates. Founded by Rockies reliever Jason Motte, the campaign aims to “strike out cancer” through the sale of t-shirts supported by MLB players – mostly pitchers and catchers. A portion of the funds raised by the sale of the shirts go to the Jason Mott Foundation ($2) and also to a charity designated by each player ($8). In Melancon’s case, funds are going to one of his favorite charities, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Shirts are available in men’s and women’s styles and are $32 each.

Speaking of T-shirts, Francisco Cervelli formally launched his campaign for President with this one we saw in Spring Training from Fresh Brewed Tees.

Cervy also got his own bitmoji courtesy of the Pirates on Thursday.

While we’re focused on clothes, Josh Harrison’s Twitter followers are trying to solve the issue of his helmet flying off as he races around the bases.

But that’s not gonna work, says Josh.

We definitely don’t want him to get a headache out there. Personally, I think he wants to show off that snazzy cap he wears under his batting helmet.

One final note about clothes – Gregory Polanco gives the Sunday Throwbacks two thumbs up!

Newbie Matt Joyce is slowly learning about his new city and recently took to social media to ask for restaurant recommendations. Apparently, he got a lot of great tips, including several to try out boutique taqueria Tako.

If he needs a tour of the city by car, I would highly suggest he ask for one from Starling Marte, who just got this beauty from car detailer to the stars Alex Vega at The Auto Firm in Miami (#DemWheels)

April 20 was National Look-Alike Day and the Pirates got in on the fun…

In the Media

Root Sports Pittsburgh is airing episodes of Inside Pirates Baseball featuring a mic-ed up Jordy Mercer. According to him, it’s likely to be pretty good:

And all of you warriors of the screen, you night owls, you dedicated fans who spent this western swing #LateNightBUCN, be proud – the hashtag was trending in the Burgh on April 19!

The Pirates take on the Diamondbacks in the second game of this three game series tonight at 8:10. They’ll be back at it Sunday at 4:10 before heading to the mile-high city for a four game stretch against the Rockies before finally coming home. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and #LetsGoBucs!
