  • What went right:
    • Jeff Locke followed up his complete game shutout with another very solid performance. He went seven innings, allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out two.
    • Starling Marte had his second consecutive three hit game. He went 3-4 with two runs scored.
    • Josh Harrison also had himself a game as he went 3-5 with two runs scored and a RBI.
    • Matt Joyce had another pinch hit home run, this one a three-run shot that proved to be the difference in the game.
  • What went wrong:
    • Tony Watson was really bad. He only recorded one out, allowed four runs on three hits and walked one.
    • Andrew McCutchen had a really poor fielding error when he botched fielding a fairly routine single. He was also caught stealing and struck out twice. Not his best game.
    • Yunel Escobar had a really big game for the Angels. He went 3-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.
    • Kole Calhoun had another good game as he went 2-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.

The Pirates won this game, but it certainly wasn’t pretty. They made it 8-3 and it looked to have all the makings of a fairly comfortable victory, but the bullpen woes continued and the Angels came very close to stealing this game. However, a win is a win and the the Pirates set themselves up with a chance to win the series with their ace on the mound for game three.

Game Three: Gerrit Cole vs. Hector Santiago
