Result: Pirates lose 5-4

Winning Pitcher: Deolis Guerra (1-0, 5.14ERA)

Losing Pitcher: Tony Watson (1-2, 4.50ERA)

Save: Huston Street (6, 0.90ERA)

  • What went right:
    • Gerrit Cole had a pretty solid start for the Bucs. He went 6.2 innings, allowed three runs on six hits and struck out four.
    • Jung Ho Kang went 2-4 with one RBI.
    • Gregory Polanco reached base three times, going 1-3 with two walks and one RBI.
    • Matt Joyce and Starling Marte both made absolutely incredible catches in the outfield.
  • What went wrong:
    • Tony Watson once again was not good at all. He pitched one inning and allowed two runs on two hits.
    • Albert Pujols hit his 30th career home run at PNC Park and was the difference in the ballgame. He finished 1-3 with three RBIs and a run scored.
    • Pirates left 11 men on-base and weren’t ever able to really extend their lead.
    • Sean Rodriguez had a game to forget. He went 0-5 and grounded into the game inning double play with the bases loaded in the ninth inning.
