Pittsburgh Pirates Series Recap – Some Good Pitching Brewing

The Pittsburgh Pirates’ upcoming schedule presents them a great opportunity to really gain some ground in the standings. They play a lot of teams under .500 and absolutely need to take advantage of it.

The Pirates did not play well against the Brewers in 2015, so despite the Brewers’ losing record, nothing was given. The Pirates played a fairly good series against the Brewers this time around. Two out of the three games featured good starting pitching performances from Jameson Taillon and Francisco Liriano. The offense is till fairly up and down, but winning is winning.

The Pirates’ have won 15 of their last 22 games despite the offense really struggling at times. The Pirates built their offense to be on-base oriented, but lately, it’s been very home run-centric. If the starting pitching can continue to turn things around, the team can survive the inconsistent offense. However, it would be in the Pirates’ best interest to get back to being a grind it out, on-base style offense.

The Pirates will continue the softer part of their schedule when the Philadelphia Phillies come to town for a three-game series. Game one will feature Gerrit Cole vs. Zach Eflin. First pitch is at 7:05pm.

Series Result: Pirates win 2-1

2016 win/loss record: 49-46

2016 series record: 15-13-2
