- What went right:
- Gerrit Cole did what aces do as he stopped the losing streak. He pitched a pretty good game too, going six innings, allowing zero runs on four hits and striking out seven.
- Josh Harrison was a spark plug with the bat and on the bases. He went 2-4 with a walk, two RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.
- Starling Marte played a big part on the base-paths too, going 2-5 with one RBI and two runs scored.
- The Pirates offense exploded in a big way, scoring 11 runs on 11 hits and going 6-12 with runners in scoring position.
- What went wrong:
- David Freese grounded into another double play, bringing his league leading total up to six.
- Melvin Upton Jr. stole a base.
- Rob Scahill did not have a great inning of work, allowing one run on one hit.
- Even in a blowout win, Jon Jay continued to haunt the Pirates, going 2-4 with one RBI.
