Pittsburgh Pirates Series Recap: Late night baseball is exhausting

This series did not go according to plan. The Pirates had plenty of chances to walk away with a series victory, but they let game one slip away and they were never in game two. Still, they were able to salvage a game and do it in a big way.

The Pirates have yet to get their full mojo going this season as the pitching staff can’t seem to get in rhythm, but the offense has looked as good as advertised thus far. The runners in scoring position stats will eventually even out as the season progresses and if the team keeps getting base-runners at their current rate of .381, they will score a lot of runs. Heck, despite the troubles with runners in scoring position, the Pirates have scored the fifth most runs in the National League.

Losing a series is never good, but you would hope the team can use the victory in game three to gain some momentum before kicking off a three game series with the much-hyped Arizona Diamondbacks. Jon Niese takes the mound and he will look to build off his tremendous start last time out when he went seven innings and gave up zero runs against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Series Result: Pirates lose 2-1

2016 win/loss record: 8-8

2016 series record: 2-3
