    • Carlos Martinez was absolutely fantastic. He went 8.1 innings, allowed one run on six hits and struck out five.
    • Matt Holliday had a big game. He went 3-4 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored.
    • Andrew McCutchen had another hitless effort with two strikeouts.
    • Erik Kratz did not have a great Pirates’ debut. He went 0-1 with a strikeout and allowed a pass ball in relief of Chris Stewart.

The Pirates are genuinely in a huge funk right now as they dropped another series. Right now things are just not going well and it seems like the team cannot get out of its own way.

The Pirates looked to salvage a game in the series with Jon Niese on the mound.
