Result: Pirates lose 3-2

- What went right:
- Jon Niese pitched fairly well. He didn’t go deep into the game, but ended up going five innings, allowed two runs on six hits and struck out six.
- Francisco Cervelli walked three times and scored a run.
- Matt Joyce had another clutch pinch hit. This time a two run single that tied the game in the seventh inning.
- Josh Harrison went 1-4 with a run scored.
- What went wrong:
- Adam Conley pitched very well for the Marlins. He went six innings, allowed zero runs on two hits and struck out nine.
- Martin Prado went 2-4 with a run scored.
- Sean Rodriguez went 0-4 with four strikeouts and left four men on base.
- John Jaso committed an error.
This was a pretty frustrating game as Adam Conley pretty much kept the Pirates off-balance his entire outing. They never really mounted much of a threat until the seventh inning, but that momentum didn’t last long as the Marlins took the lead in the eighth inning and eventually won the game.
The Pirates looked to salvage a series split in the final game of both the series and the road trip.
Game Four: Juan Nicasio vs. Wei-Yin Chen
