- What went right:
- Juan Nicasio pitched pretty well as he went six innings, allowed three runs on six hits and struck out four.
- Matt Joyce had a big game in relief of Gregory Polanco. He went 1-4 with two RBIs and kick started the Pirates’ comeback.
- John Jaso tied the game with a clutch base hit in the top of the ninth inning.
- The bullpen pitched a very good game. Jared Hughes, Mark Melancon, Neftali Feliz and A.J. Schugel combined to go 5.2 innings, allowed one run on one hit and struck out five.
- What went wrong:
- Wei-Yin Chen had a no-hitter through six innings and pitched extremely well for the Marlins. He went six innings, allowed two runs on one hit and struck out five.
- Ichiro Suzuki was tremendous on offense and defense. He went 2-5 with a walk and run scored. He also robbed the Pirates of several hits and saved at least two runs. He was playing like it was 2001.
- Christian Yelich went 3-6 and had the game-winning RBI double in the 12th inning.
- Francisco Cervelli, Jordy Mercer, Andrew McCutchen and David Freese all had to leave game with injuries.
