  • What went right:
    • John Jaso kept his eating streak alive by going 1-4 at the top of the lineup.
    • Juan Nicasio didn’t pitch poorly. He kept the team in the game, going five innings, allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
    • Sean Rodriguez continued his outstanding start to the season by hitting another home run. He went 1-3 on the day.
    • Arquimedes Caminero had a scoreless inning of relief.
  • What went wrong:
    • Chris Hermann, a career .160 hitter had a monster game. Going 2-3 with a home run, four RBI, one run scored and a walk.
    • Rubby De La Rosa pitched a pretty solid game for the Diamondbacks. Going six innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out six.
    • Nick Ahmed had a very solid game on both offense and defense. He went 1-2 with two walks and two runs scored.
    • A.J. Schugel was pretty dreadful for the Pirates. After a very good first inning of relief, he gave up five runs on four hits and pretty much sealed the loss.

This game started with so much promise as Sean Rodriguez homered again and a struggling starting pitcher was on the mound for the Diamondbacks, but you can’t predict baseball, it will always surprise you.

Rubby De La Rosa looked pretty impressive for the Diamondbacks as he pretty much kept the Pirates in check for all of his six innings of work. The Pirates’ bullpen then wasn’t able to hold serve and Arizona ended up winning in a laugher. Frustrating indeed!

The beautiful thing about baseball is usually you don’t have to sit on the losses for too long as the Pirates looked to win a series with Francisco Liriano on the mound for game three.

Game Three: Francisco Liriano vs. Robbie Ray
