Pittsburgh Pirates Series Recap: Pirates Stranded in loss to Reds

The opening series against the Cardinals was what makes baseball a wonderful game, this series against the Reds is why baseball can be so damn painful. The Pirates had plenty of chances in each of the three games, but weren’t able to take advantage and as a result, they lost a series to a presumably poor team.

Despite the series loss, the Pirates went 4-2 over the first week of the 2016 regular season, which is a nice improvement over the first week of 2015 when the team went 2-4.

Losing a series to the Reds is very frustrating and you would hope the Pirates improve in their situational hitting, which I think is almost a guarantee as they aren’t going to go 5-35 (.142) with runners in scoring position too often in 2016. The Pirates did not play their best series and deserved the series loss.

The beauty of baseball is you don’t have to sit on the losses for too long as the Pirates will look to respond to this series loss when they visit the Detroit Tigers for a home and home four game series.

Series Result: Pirates lose 2-1

2016 win/loss record: 4-2

2016 series record: 1-1
