- What went right:
- John Jaso just keeps hitting and getting on-base. He went 2-4 with a RBI.
- Juan Nicaso pitched very well in a somewhat short outing. He went five innings, allowed one run on three hits and struck out seven.
- The bullpen was fantastic as Jared Hughes, Tony Watson, Neftali Feliz and Mark Melancon completely shut the door and sealed the victory.
- Jordy Mercer had a great day overall as he had a multi-hit effort in the second half of the doubleheader. He went 2-4 with a run scored.
- What went wrong:
- Andrew McCutchen went 0-4 with two strikeouts and left four men on-base and grounded into a double play.
- Matt Joyce had arguably his worst effort of the season. He went 0-4 with four strikeouts.
- Michael Conforto went 1-3 with a run scored.
- Kevin Plawecki went 1-3 with a RBI.
The Pirates played another fairly clean game, swept the doubleheader and won the series in the process. Good pitching and enough hitting is a recipe for a lot of wins.
The Pirates looked to sweep the Mets and finally saw the debut of a long awaited top prospect.
