Pittsburgh Pirates Series Recap – A series win and a hyped debut

Game Two: Juan Nicasio (4-4, 4.75ERA) vs. Jacob deGrom (3-1, 2.62ERA)

Result: Pirates win 3-1

Winning Pitcher: Juan Nicasio (5-4, 4.50ERA)

Losing Pitcher: Jacob deGrom (3-2, 2.80ERA)

Save: Mark Melancon (19, 1.78ERA)

  • What went right:
    • John Jaso just keeps hitting and getting on-base. He went 2-4 with a RBI.
    • Juan Nicaso pitched very well in a somewhat short outing. He went five innings, allowed one run on three hits and struck out seven.
    • The bullpen was fantastic as Jared Hughes, Tony Watson, Neftali Feliz and Mark Melancon completely shut the door and sealed the victory.
    • Jordy Mercer had a great day overall as he had a multi-hit effort in the second half of the doubleheader. He went 2-4 with a run scored.
  • What went wrong:

The Pirates played another fairly clean game, swept the doubleheader and won the series in the process. Good pitching and enough hitting is a recipe for a lot of wins.

The Pirates looked to sweep the Mets and finally saw the debut of a long awaited top prospect.
