Pittsburgh Pirates Series Recap – A series win and a hyped debut

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been in a bit of a funk recently and really needed a series victory against the Mets and they did just that. Would have been nice to sweep this series, but the Mets are a pretty good team and they deserved to win game three. The bullpen for most of this series was pretty good, but you could see the impact the doubleheader had on game three as different pitchers had to be used in different roles than normal.

Despite losing game three, the Pirates took the series and played very good baseball for the most part. It was a good bounce back effort following three consecutive series defeats and hopefully builds a bit of momentum as the Pirates look to get back to their winning ways.

The Pirates will have a strange travel day as they play a make-up game in Denver against the Rockies before beginning a three game series against the hated St. Louis Cardinals. The Rockies game is at 5:10pm with Jeff Locke taking on Chad Bettis, but I would wager most people in Pittsburgh are preparing for a certain hockey game as the local team attempts to win the Stanley Cup.

As for the Cardinals series, game one features a battle of young, talented pitchers as Gerrit Cole takes on Michael Wacha on Friday at PNC Park. First pitch is at 7:05pm.

Series Result: Pirates win 2-1

2016 win/loss record: 32-27

2016 series record: 10-8-1
