- What went wrong:
- Andrew McCutchen had a pivotal error that lead to the big blow of the game. He committed an error with two outs and on the next pitch Ben Zobrist hit a three-run home run to put the Cubs ahead in the third inning.
- Anthony Rizzo had a big game as he went 3-5 with one RBI and three runs scored.
- Ben Zobrist hit a back-breaking three-run home run that the Pirates were never able to recover from.
- Sean Rodriguez was picked off of first by David Ross.
