Pittsburgh Pirates Series Recap: Well, that hurt like hell

This series was absolutely terrible. No way around it, but it’s important to remember that despite being swept the season is NOT over yet. Still a lot of baseball left to be played and obviously anything can happen in this crazy game.

Despite there being a lot of baseball left, it’s hard not to be discouraged by this series. The Pirates didn’t just lose, they got embarrassed by the Cubs. Chicago came into this season with all the hype in the world and so far, they are not just living up to it, but somehow exceeding it.

This Cubs team really does look like a team on a mission, but they will not play this well the entire season. Every team hits speed bumps. The Pirates MUST stay relatively close to Chicago and hope to take advantage of when the Cubs inevitably have a bad streak.

The Pirates will recover from this and go on to play good baseball. They ran into a buzzsaw of a team playing exceptionally good baseball. There is no excuse for the poor play of the Pirates this series, but they will move past it and play better. I don’t think this is going to destroy and derail their season.

The Pirates will have an off-day on Thursday before traveling to St. Louis to take on the also struggling Cardinals on Friday. The Pirates open with Francisco Liriano taking on Carlos Martinez. First pitch is at 8:15pm.

Series Result:Pirates lose 0-3

2016 win/loss record: 15-13
