Pittsburgh Pirates Series Recap – Young Bucs and Ex Cards

When the Pirates began this road trip, it definitely felt like a make or break trip. The team responded by going 7-2 on the nine-game trip and played some very good baseball in three straight series.

I’ve always said that baseball is a game of extremes as there will be times you look like the worst team in the league and times you look like the best. The Pirates are definitely on an upswing and seem to be getting back into contention. They picked a great time to bust out of their funk as it would have been hard to recover from a poor road trip, but they did their part and won seven of nine.

The Pirates will look to continue their good fortune as the Chicago Cubs are coming to town and have fallen back to earth after an unreal start to the season. The Cubs are 3-7 in their last 10 games and have seen their NL Central shrink from double digits down to 8.5 games in front of the Pirates.

This could be a situation of playing an opponent at the right time as the Pirates are hot and the Cubs are cold. However, you still must play the games and until otherwise, the Cubs are the favorites in pretty much any game against the Pirates.

Game one of the series will feature Francisco Liriano taking on Jake Arrieta. First pitch is at 7:05pm.

Series Result: Pirates win 3-1

2016 win/loss record: 44-42

2016 series record: 13-12-2
